Lime mortar to andvända outdoors - hydraulic lime

Sunday, September 28th, 2008

Three recipes:
100 parts by weight hydraulic lime and sand 450 parts

10 parts by weight of lime, 90 parts hydraulic lime and 750 parts of sand

40 parts by weight of lime, 60 parts hydraulic lime and 550 parts of sand

Hydraulic lime can be cured without access to air, it contains impure particles such as clay. It is capable of weathering much better than the non-hydraulic lime. Water does not penetrate as easily into it, and is therefore much less susceptible to frost.

It is usually mixed lime and hydraulic lime, but there are instances when you just used hydraulic lime. It is a fairly strong operating , but not in comparison with those containing cement.

Application
Can generally be used anywhere.

Recipe for lime mortar for interior use

Wednesday, September 24th, 2008

The most common variants
Recipe 1: 100 parts of non-hydraulic kalk/1050 parts sand
Recipe 2: 100 parts of non-hydraulic kalk/850 parts sand
Recipe 3: 100 parts of non-hydraulic kalk/650 parts sand

Lime / hydratkalk / air lime / slaked lime
This is a service that is soft but very elastic. The more the more elastic cup, i.e. formula 1 are less elastic than the prescription the third If you use fine sand, so we need more lime to bind the sand (larger surface that need to be tied). The coarser grains of sand needed smaller scale (smaller area as the lime will bind to).

Lime is premixed or dry product. It takes a long time to use et to cure (months), because it only begin to harden id ca. 7% moisture content.

Application
Especially indoors in older homes. Can be used outdoors but it needed the addition of air-entraining agent or hydraulic lime to ensure frost resistance.
